House in Pinheiros

1/9

The house is situated on one of the hills that defines the floodplain of the Pinheiros River.

The project seeks to reveal this landscape from the street level, organizing the program vertically from the liberation of the first floor as an entrance square, with a view to the sunset.

The implantation seeks to give continuity to the internal and external spaces, at the same time amplifying them. The building, which would occupy almost the entire lot, had its programs superimposed, diluting the built volume. As a result, each floor presents a distinct technical solution: on the ground floor, the concrete block is placed on the ground. On the access level, a glass prism. On the top floor, a wooden box.

With the sloping terrain, the living space, at the level below the street level, is directly connected to the garden, the trees, the pool, while maintaining a wide view of the horizon. The exposed concrete walls define the perimeter of this building. A loose central block of masonry condenses the closed programs and sectorizes the other uses around it. The kitchen, also on this floor, opens onto a half-height garden.

The upper volume, in turn, is suspended above the city, housing the bedrooms and a north-south transverse living room. The house rests on four concrete pillars that support ribbed slabs with 4-meter overhangs; two intermediate slender metal supports help reduce deformation. Even so, due to the structural movement, which can generate cracks, an independent external coating was thought of, with autoclaved eucalyptus slats applied vertically. This serves to shade the façade, ensuring thermal efficiency, and allows the internal seals to be light, especially on large overhangs. Some of these wood panels slide to lighten or darken the rooms.

The roof is a black volume that houses another bedroom, independent of the others, and also an access to the solarium common to all. The metal stairway connecting the floors is hollow and allows the sunlight, captured on this fourth floor, to travel vertically throughout the house. At night, this lantern works as a light fixture for the gazebo.

At the back end of the lot, away from the main construction, are located the pool and a deck that extends into the garden. Below, appropriating the unevenness, there are also some annexed programs such as services and a music studio.
