The Esquina Building, in the Pinheiros district of São Paulo, reinforces the idea of occupying the urban corner as a place of confluence and permanence. The project draws on the heterogeneity of the surroundings and the density of the neighborhood to combine mixed use, typological diversity and more open and generous urban relations.
The building is marked by two blocks: an active base that houses commercial and service uses, and an upper volume that houses residential units of different typologies.
The use of vegetation contributes to shading, the relationship between uses, the enhancement of open areas and integration with the neighborhood. In the Soma Arquitetos project, the presence of landscaping begins with the design of the sidewalks and extends to the verandas and roofs, revealing a concern with porosity and the continuity of the landscape on a vertical scale.
The architecture of the Esquina Building sought out the virtues of mixed use, designing a generous commercial area on the first floor, with a volume of 8 floors occupied by office rooms, avoiding the use of walls that isolate the buildings from the public area, valuing the sidewalks and pointing to a design thinking attentive to the role of architecture for a more plural and generous urbanity.
