Exhibition Cartographies of an Alley: Fabric of Skin and Paint

1/3

The Institute of Brazilian Studies at the University of São Paulo (IEB-USP) and Instituto Çarê present the exhibition Cartographies of an Alley: Fabric of Skin and Paint. Curated by Sônia Salzstein and Claudinei Roberto da Silva, the show brings together works by young artists from the Nove favela in Vila Leopoldina and the Brasilândia community.

In dialogue with the collection of the Institute of Brazilian Studies (IEB-USP), these artists found inspiration to develop visual narratives that record their territory, emotional memories, and ancestry. The initiative is part of an institutional action plan that fosters connections between young people from peripheral neighborhoods and university life, while providing access to IEB’s extensive documentary, iconographic, and bibliographic collections on Brazil.¹
