The land of this house is in a privileged situation, a small hill of dense forest in the middle of the city of Joinville. The access is made by a dirt road up to the maximum level allowed for construction, allowing a view of the mountains in the background, through the gaps in the vegetation.
The strong slope and the position of the trees indicated the implantation, a narrow building that follows the level curve. The linear solution allows continuity between the open and closed spaces of the floor close to the ground, in a frank relationship with the site.
This lower floor, which houses the living, pool, and service areas, is built in concrete. It functions as the foundation itself, which outcrops and contains the ground, protecting the house from excessive humidity.
A single longitudinal volume houses the stairs, internal and external, as well as niches for the fireplace, ovens, toilets, and storage. It is all covered with “vermelhão”, burnt cement with pigment, a very popular solution in the region.
The upper floor rests on the concrete base. Its construction was designed as a wood assembly: prefabricated structure, floors, internal sealing panels, and roof. This construction strategy guarantees a quickly covered site, avoiding the discomfort of constant rain. At both ends are the collective spaces, office and living room. The bedrooms are concentrated in the center of this floor. The exception is an empty space that connects the two floors with a double height.
The volume’s envelope is made of glass. This transparent and reflective piece, at the canopy level, is naturally shaded and blends into the forest.
